MURDER MYSTERY
When we were 17-years-olds, we lived on a steady diet of noir crime fiction when we weren't writing songs – especially Dashiell Hammett, Mickey Spillane, Perry Mason and James Hadley Chase. So when it came to writing a song with a story, it’s no surprise that we chose a noir theme for it. Murder Mystery is about a guy who witnesses and stumbles on to the dead body of a beautiful woman and is accused of killing her. He is convicted of the crime and sentenced to death. Did he see who did it… does he hang for it… or does he escape? Stay tuned for Part II of Murder Mystery… that we wrote as a follow up to this song. Will we ever record it? Who knows!! In the meantime, enjoy this one… Murder Mystery - Part One...

It was cold and it was dark
Little moonlight not a spark
There was silence but for the rain
Which was falling on the lane
I heard a scream I turned around
I saw a body on the ground
Oh help me… oh help me
Oh help me find a light
There was a knife on her chest
Her eyes were closed as if in rest
Blood was streaming from her heart
Oh she was too young to depart
I was shocked I touched the knife
This one move cost me my life
Oh help me… oh help me
Oh help me make sense of tonight
Bridge:
Call the cops get me some hops
I think I’ll faint cos a hero I ain't
I think we can all agree
That this is a murder mystery
The detective on the scene
He told me that I was lying
And it broke my heart
To see the dead girl’s parents crying
Oh the prints on the knife
This one move cost me my life
In the courts they made no sense
When they passed my death sentence
Oh help me… oh help me
Can’t you see that I am in misery
And I don’t want to be
The villain in this murder mystery
Oh help me… oh help me
Save me from this history
I don’t think that I want to be
The villain in this murder mystery
Somebody help me
Somebody help me
Somebody help me
