LOVE YOU DID ME WRONG

Here’s a hard rock song for your listening pleasure. We started writing and playing this song the day Krishna got his drum kit and I got my electric guitar and amplifier. We were looking for a song with an opening riff that would be fun to play as we went from an acoustic to electric – I don’t know why we didn’t just play “Smoke On The Water” like everyone else. We’ve always wanted to play original music, I guess.

I played it with a lot of echo on guitar so Krishna could play some cool rolls and fills on his drums between the power chords Am-F-G-Am. We didn’t have any lyrics or a melody for it — but Krishna would sing the words of Norwegian Wood over the opening chord progression.

Last week, in a burst of inspiration, we wrote the lyrics, added a chorus and created a melody that was a little removed from the opening but based on the vibe we had going on when we first used to play it. This was the first chord progression we played every time I turned on my amplifier and Krishna sat behind his drum kit those days. We listened to a lot of Uriah Heep and Rainbow, Wishbone Ash and other melodic British hard rock bands at that time so we’ve tried to keep the song in that universe.

As I’ve said before, this project allows me write and do songs I wouldn’t on my own these days. I would never write lyrics like this now but imagining myself as the 17-year old playing those power chords while Krishna played drums in his house in Shanthi Nagar in Bangalore, allows me to go back in time to a more innocent and naïve state of mind. Hope you like it… I do… a lot!

Winter’s here and I feel the north wind blow

It reminds me of a love that’s now grown cold

If I’m wondering where she is right now

It’s because I’m still in the flames of love

We’ve had our good days in the sun

But now I am the unfortunate one

Was this her plan all along

Dr. Peters says that I must be strong

But love… love you did me wrong

Note the time and cross the lines

Say your piece and pay your fines

Burn the photos and change the locks

Then dial her number from the corner call box

It’s only love’s paradox at play

You’re a shell of who you were yesterday

Was it her plan all along

Everybody says I must be strong

But love… love you did me wrong

I heard she’s moved on to a better life

I’ve heard she’s now a mother and a wife

People think that I have moved on too

But only heaven know that it’s not true

I still pine for her with all my heart

I should have walked away right at the start

Was this her plan all along

I know that I must be strong

But love… love you did me wrong

Oh love you did me wrong

Looooooooooove you did me wrong

Love
